Dear Mr. President...

Reed Crabtree, a fourth grade student at Arbor Station, won fourth place in a national writing contest sponsored by The Gilder Lehrman Institute, a nonprofit organization devoted to the improvement of history education.

Reed is a member of a new club at Arbor Station Elementary, called The Rocking Writers, sponsored by Mr. Bruno, Assistant Principal. Reed entered a selection titled “Dear George Washington", a letter to our first President, in which he took the point of view of a slave who fought in the War for Independence and then wondered why he remained enslaved after the war was won by the colonies.

Reed said, “I was so amazed when I found out that I won. It was a national contest!” The fourth grader will receive a cash award and several other prizes from Gilder Lehrman for his winning entry.

Congratulations, Reed. We are all so PROUD of you and your accomplishment!
